Today I have the distinct pleasure of posting an audio interview I did recently with Mike T Nelson.
Mike is a PhD candidate in Kinesiology at the University of Minnesota. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the NSCA, Z Health R, I, S and T Phase certified, Z Health Master Trainer, and a RKC (Russian Kettlebell Certification).
Oh yeah, He is a professional member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the North American Society of Pediatric Exercise Medicine (NASPEM) and has presented at both ACSM and NASPEM Conferences as well.
In other words, Mike is wicked smart!
We chatted about the power of the nervous system, neuroplasticity, working the opposite joint for better strength, arthrokinetic reflex (bad joints = piss poor strength), how the brain gets information for performance (hint, think joints, eyes and inner ear), Z-Health and much more!
You don’t want to miss this.
In the meantime, feel free to drop by Mike’s site as well. He’s giving away one hundred dollars to each of the first 100 visitors. Okay…just kidding. Here’s the link:

As many of you may know, I believe that reading for an hour per day is paramount if you hope to become a leader in any field. Fitness and nutrition are no different. Here are a few things to get you started for today.
The Real Biggest Losers…the viewers
This is a great post by strength coach Robert dos Remedios. I won’t steal his thunder by talking about the post. Just give it a read. If you have a blog or even a Facebook account please share this.
My guess is that my colleague Aaron Schwenzfeier gave this post a simple title because he feels bad that nobody can spell his name without a dictionary. I honestly just cut and paste it from his blog whenever I have to write it.
Nonetheless, Aaron examines the strong divide between the endurance training community and the lifting community and presents some reasons why maybe…just maybe…there may be a reason for lifters to run as well.
The Shake Weight
Okay…so you probably won’t learn anything from the following video. In fact, it will probably suck the brain cells right from your head, but it is Friday and who needs brain cells on the weekend?

One thing I love about bodybuilding purists is that they train so hard that their eyes bleed and their muscles are almost tearing through their skin. They simply don’t know any other way. They want to grow and when their bodies want to give up they simply don’t take no for an answer.
On the other hand, many bodybuilding purists are so focused on the tradition of how things have always been done that it is darn near impossible to get them to accept anything different. Below I’m going to give my own experience and beliefs, trying to slay a couple sacred cows of purist bodybuilding. Get out your torches and pitchforks ready. I’m assuming the hunt for me will be on at dusk.

To be quite honest, I don’t like rapid fat loss programs very much. No matter what the sales copy says, the person is going to lose some muscle unless they’re jacked up on gear.
In my experience, the majority of people who follow these “12 week” programs also rebound rapidly gaining all the weight back within a fraction of the time it took them to get it off in the first place.
Still, every once in a while people come to me asking to help them lose fat quickly. I give them the above warnings, but they’re set on a certain time frame and my job is to provide the results people want. Below is a friend named Tyler who had only 11 weeks to get into the best shape possible.

During that time he lost an incredible 43 pounds and 6.75 inches off his waist. Granted, because his program was almost entirely geared towards fat loss, I didn’t have time to put the size on his legs like I wanted, but I still think the results are pretty damn impressive.
Of course, you could give the guy a hard time for the bad choice of briefs or for the new Batman tatoo (believe me…I did). However, you simply can’t argue with his results.
Nice work brother!

The Truth about Impingement, Part 1
Excellent post by Eric Cressey about impingement. If you’ve ever been told you have it or deal with people with shoulder pain, you should read this.
The Truth About Impingement, Part 2
Okay…I obviously couldn’t just post part 1. Here you’ll discover the difference between external and internal impingement. More importantly, you’ll learn the 5 questions you MUST ask your doctor if they ever tell you that you’re suffering from impingement.
Enjoy!
